Bait Al Serkal

Bait Al Serkal

A historic house echoing the spirit of Sharjah

Built in the 19th century, with a history of around 150 years, the magnificent Al Serkal house has many stories to tell, having served Sharjah in many different forms.

For a long while, it was a former home of the British Commissioner for the Arabian Gulf. In the early 1960's, it was transformed into the first hospital in Sharjah, where many prominent residents of the city were born.

Bait Al Serkal was restored between 1993 and 1995 along with other heritage buildings in the Al Shuwaiheen area. Today, it serves the Sharjah Art Foundation as one of the premier venues for the Sharjah Biennial and for changing exhibitions, workshops and events.
